The Minority caucus in Parliament has warned that if committee work on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill, better known as the anti-gay law, is not accelerated, it will hinder government activity in the House.

According to the organization, it will do this by stopping the House from passing other government measures.

Minority Chief Whip Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka accused the chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, of abandoning the committee's job and traveling in a statement on the floor of Parliament.

He said that the committee chairman used similar techniques on purpose to block the bill.

"Mr. Speaker, if the chair has decided to use a strategy that allows him to leave the Committee work and travel for one week, two weeks, and then return and continue this tortoise manner of dealing with the bill at the committee, then we may need to give our colleagues notice."

"If the head of the Constitutional and Legal Committee wants to utilize this way to postpone that law...that bill was in this House before so many other legislation." I can tell you that every other bill you bring in this House will be met with opposition, even if it is a good bill.

"As long as that measure is there, no other law will be allowed to pass through this House." If you try to do so, we will oppose you since it appears to be purposeful. You are purposefully postponing the payment of the debt. Make no apologies.

"You know what to do if you want things fast-tracked." If the government really wanted to get that bill passed, they'd do it.

In June of last year, the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 was introduced in Ghana's parliament.

It was then forwarded to the Committee on Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs for review.  Despite the fact that it has had 15 weeks to complete its job, it has failed to present a report to the House.

If approved, the measure will make all LGBTI+ activities illegal.
