After one hilarious try, England player Tammy Abraham may not have played against Germany, and Gareth Southgate's mind may have been made up before a ball was even kicked.
Tammy Abraham's "total howler" during England's warm-up ahead of their match against Germany on Tuesday night had his teammates in fits of laughter.
After the AS Roma attacker attempted some deception in the Olympiastadion, Jude Bellingham, Conor Coady, and Reece James were unable to contain themselves. While the rest of the squad looked to start a game of rondo, Abraham was engaged in some keepy-uppies.
This is a traditional possession warm-up that most teams practice before a match, when two players pass the ball while two others hunt it down. However, as the players shifted into position, Abraham wanted to use the ball to show off for the audience.
However, his effort at a 'round the world' - placing your entire leg around the ball while it's in the air - did not go as planned, as he stamped on it as it struck the ground. The striker was down on the deck with his legs in the air before he realized it.
James, a former Chelsea player with whom he rose through the Cobham ranks, had to cover his mouth with second-hand shame. Bellingham, on the other hand, did not extend such politeness to Abraham, making a beeline for the right-back and tittering the entire way.
As Abraham hurled the ball towards Bellingham, Wolves star Coady was almost in tears, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher were seen giggling. As one England supporter put it,
To make amends for their shock loss to Hungary last week, the Three Lions drew against Germany in Munich on Tuesday night. However, not everything went England's way.
When Jonas Hofmann scored just after half-time, the home side had mostly controlled the game and merited their lead. When Harry Kane was fouled with just minutes to go, he was able to claw back a point from the penalty spot.
When Mason Mount was replaced by Jack Grealish, the game took on a new flavor, with the Manchester City ace pushing England up the pitch more. For much of the season, the former Aston Villa star has been on the bench, but he has shown why he may be an important component for Southgate.
The supervisor stated: "The difficulty for the wide players at the start of the game was to attack, defend, and try to score goals - a high tactical level that required pinpoint accuracy - and this is an area where Jack can improve.
He did, however, carry the ball as the game began to open up with more room and opportunities.
