JUNE 4TH LAID FOUNDATIONS FOR GHANA’S CONSTITUTION, DEMOCRACY – ZANETOR RAWLINGS

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Korle Klottey seat, has stated that the events of June 4, 1979 led to Ghana's long-lasting democracy.

According to her, the country's current democratic administration did not happen by chance.

According to her, the Fourth Republic, which is the country's longest republic, exists as a result of the June 4 Uprising's solid foundation.

On the sidelines of a photo exhibition and theater performance organized by the Jerry John Rawlings Foundation to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the June 4 Uprising in Accra, the legislator told journalists that not everything that happened on that day was good, but the nation must be honest about what happened.

"Some people are unaware that the same Rawlings who has been accused of being anti-democratic is the basis for the 4th Republic. Only a select few, such as attorneys, would have had their opinions documented if Rawlings' decision to engage everyone in the writing of the Constitution that established the Fourth Republic had not been made."

"If today, Ghana has become an oasis in a sub-region where many countries in West Africa have experienced coups d'états, but Ghana still has an enduring republic, we must recognize that someone did something good for us and that is why it is enduring because democracy is not by accident, and having a constitutional rule is not by accident," she continued.

"So, if we are honoring the longest republic in our history today, we must understand and respect all of the factors that lead us to this place, as well as recognize all of those who helped us get there." "It didn't just happen."

Dr. Zanetor, on the other hand, pointed out that the different coups d'etats and violent extremisms that Ghana's neighbors are experiencing might also affect the country, emphasizing the importance of promoting good governance.

People will take advantage of popular discontent to produce mayhem, according to Korle Klottey MP, if the government fails to deliver on its mission while creating channels for corruption and misery to thrive.

"The events of June 4 should serve as a guide for us." Despite the fact that it has been 43 years, some individuals have decided not to accept what happened. At the very least, they should be informed that we've gone a long way and that now is not the time for Ghana to turn back."

She stated that the 43rd June 4 commemoration, which took place on Saturday at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science auditorium, aimed to commemorate and congratulate former President Jerry John Rawlings, the leader of the 1979 revolt, as well as the individuals with whom he collaborated.

She stressed that it is past time for Ghana to tell the tale of June 4 since some individuals have decided not to.  "The next generation has to know what transpired and how the events of that terrible day came to be." We need to know our past, and you don't say what you like and leave out what you don't like in history.

"History must be transmitted so that future generations understand their origins," she said, "since you can only know how to define your future if you know your history."
