Liverpool is one of Europe's best teams as well as England's best. They have done well as a football club in the past and now, winning almost everything.

Liverpool has brought in a slew of talented players who are all ecstatic to be at Anfield. Liverpool has always gotten it right when it comes to signing excellent players, both in the past and currently, and as a result, the club has a good legend.

However, Liverpool has attempted to sign a few players who have since moved on to another club. The five players listed below were all Liverpool targets before signing with another club.

Michael Laudrup, No. 5

In the summer of 1983, Michael Laudrup, one of the best attacking midfielders of his period, agreed to join Liverpool. The Reds insisted on adding a year to Laudrup's agreed-upon three-year contract, which caused the agreement to fall through.

The Brondby striker joined Juventus for €1.5 million the following summer after leaving the English giants.

Laudrup complimented the Reds as his ideal club in an interview with Liverpool ECHO, adding that the Reds did make a bid for him back in the day.

Laudrup had a lot of success at Juventus, but he also had a lot of success at Barcelona and subsequently Real Madrid.

Laudrup won five La Liga titles, one Champions League, one Copa del Rey, two UEFA Super Cups, and two UEFA Cups during his career.

4. Nemanja Vidic (Croatia)

Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic is widely considered as one of the best defenders in the world. If Rafael Benitez had his way in 2006, Vidic could have been a Liverpool star.

The Serbian admitted that he was on the verge of joining the Reds from Spartak Moscow in 2006, but that his terrible English prevented him from doing so. He told FourFourTwo in an interview:

Yes. When Rafa Benitez called, I was almost there. I wanted to go, but my English was terrible, and I couldn't communicate.

Sir Alex Ferguson came on his house right away, and he was sent to Old Trafford right away. Vidic went on to say:

"Manchester United arrived after that. 'I saw you play for Serbia against France,' Fergie continued, 'and I want you here.'

Alexis Sanchez (#3)

After three seasons at the Camp Nou, Alexis Sanchez planned to leave the club in 2014. Liverpool wanted Sanchez to replace Luis Suarez, who was set to leave for Barcelona the following summer.

Brendan Rodgers attempted to get the Chilean to Anfield at the time, but Arsenal's Arsene Wenger beat him to it.

Between 2014 and 2018, Sanchez was one of Europe's best players. He scored 80 goals and provided 45 assists in 166 games for Arsenal.

Toni Kroos is number two on the list.

After winning it all with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Toni Kroos has cemented his place as one of the best midfielders of all time.

The German has won five Champions League titles, six league titles (three Bundesliga and three La Liga), and the 2014 World Cup with Germany, among other honors.

When the then-Bayern Munich center midfielder became available for transfer in the summer of 2014, Liverpool decided to throw their hat in the ring. The Reds' manager at the time, Brendan Rodgers, recommended that club captain Steven Gerrard approach Kroos.

According to the English midfielder, Liverpool would be "p*ssing into the wind" with this one, but he still gave it a chance.

Mbappe, Kylian

The world's most wanted striker, Kylian Mbappe, has extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for another three years.

The Frenchman, whose contract was slated to expire in June 2022, first considered a change of scenery but ultimately chose to remain in Paris.

Real Madrid was PSG's biggest competitor in the Mbappe drama, but the teenager revealed that his mother's favorite club, Liverpool, was also addressed. He stated, according to the Daily Telegraph. We didn't say much, but we did exchange a few words. My mother's favorite team is Liverpool, therefore I chatted with them. I'm not sure why, but you'll have to inquire with her about it.

The 2018 World Cup winner said, "I met with them five years ago.
