Arnaut Danjuma has explained his comments about Liverpool rumours, arguing that quotes he offered to a Dutch media were misread. The Villarreal winger, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, appeared to hint that he was aware of the Reds' interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old had a fantastic season with Villarreal, who finished eighth in La Liga and advanced to the Champions League semi-finals, losing to Liverpool. Danjuma, a former Bournemouth striker, scored 16 goals in 34 games in all competitions.

His form has piqued the curiosity of Europe's elite teams, and he seemed to hint that Premier League runners-up Liverpool were among them. "I have never had interactions with clubs or anything like that during the season," the Netherlands international told Ziggo Sport.

At the end of the season, I'm always aware of the circumstances." But I was told that Liverpool was keeping a close eye on me.

He has since clarified that the statements were misconstrued, claiming that he only learned of the interest through media accounts. "It's a funny story," he told Sky Sports. "I think we've all read what's been said in the press." Because I conducted an interview in Holland and stated that I was aware of the curiosity, I'm a quick learner.

They wanted to know if I was aware of the attention, which I am." I'm aware of the curiosity, as are you and I, because it's been covered in the press.

That's why, thanks to the media, I'm aware of the interest. I never verified Liverpool's interest since the only individuals who can confirm that are myself and my team. But I haven't heard anything from my team, and I'm having a great time with Villarreal right now.

Liverpool may be able to spend a lot of money in the summer transfer window.

"Right now, I'm incredibly happy there, and we've had a terrific season." I would never strive to devalue the club because it has been fantastic to me.

Danjuma had a brief career in England with Bournemouth, scoring 17 goals in 52 games. After arriving in the summer of 2019, he was limited to just 14 Premier League games. The following season, the Cherries were relegated, and he spent the majority of his career with the club in the Championship.

I would absolutely have to confirm that," Danjuma said when asked if he has unfinished business in England. In England, there is undoubtedly unfinished business for me. If you think back to why I joined Bournemouth in the first place, it was to play Premier League football.

Danjuma joined Villarreal last summer for roughly £25 million. It has been generally believed that he has a £45 million release clause.
