Are You Still In Love?

By Archbishop Charles Agyinasare

Day 160 (09/06/2022)

Revelation 2:4(AMP) “But I have this [charge] against you, that you have left your first love [you have lost the depth of love that you first had for Me].”

Are you still in love with Jesus? Have you left your first love? As believers, we experience a surge of love that fuels our walk with God and brings pleasure, delight, and satisfaction when we give our lives to Him. The Devil seeks to see us walk away from this feeling, hence we must stay alert and be aware of the danger of leaving our first love.

From today’s reading, Jesus cautioned the Church of Ephesus to repent and return from leaving their first love.

Here are three areas of our first love we must return to:

1. Our obedience to God’s Word

Because God’s Word doesn’t age, we must at all times use it as our guide. More importantly, obedience to God’s word demonstrates that we love Him. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 11:1 (NKJV), “Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always.”

2. Our worship of God

When love for God grows cold our worship is affected. The Bible tells us in John 4:23-24 (NKJV), “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”. Since our worship is the one thing God is seeking, we need to return to the place of true worship.

3. Our service to God

Many believers in the midst of the pressures of life have taken the service of God for granted. Have you abandoned serving God? I urge you to go back right now! The Bible says in 1 Samuel 12:24, “Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you”.

Precious one, Jesus is calling us to return to our first love. We must surrender our lives back to Him for His arms are ever open to receive us back.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m sorry for ever leaving my first love. As I return to You with all my heart, rekindle a fresh and undying fire in my heart, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
