Liverpool has warned Jurgen Klopp how he can stop after breaking the transfer record for Darwin Nunez.

Darwin Nunez is expected to be Liverpool's second summer signing, but Jurgen Klopp has been given instructions to hire at least two midfielders in order to keep up with Manchester City.

Even if they sign Darwin Nunez this summer, Liverpool will need at least two midfielders to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

Former England forward Gabriel Agbonlahor believes the Reds must try to bring in new midfielders to compete with City's quality in those positions.

Liverpool have already made one signing this summer, with Fabio Carvalho joining from Fulham, but Nunez is closing in on a record-breaking move to Anfield from Benfica.

Last season, the Uruguay international scored 34 goals in all competitions, including one in each leg of their Champions League quarter-final loss to Liverpool. According to reports, the fee for Nunez will be in the region of £85 million, making him their record exchange upon Virgil van Djik's £75 million move from Southampton in January 2018.

However, Agbonlahor believes Nunez will not be enough to return the Reds to the top of the Premier League and believes they will need to bring in at least two new midfielders. He admitted that Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and England would be "perfect" for Jurgen Klopp's team.

"Nunez is an outstanding player," he told talkSPORT. "He'll get better and better." However, Liverpool requires midfielders.

"Thiago has injury issues, and Jordan Henderson's legs will start to fail now that he's in his thirties." They require two midfielders. Jude Bellingham would be ideal for them.

"They have enough cover in defense and goal." They'll be back challenging Man City for the title next season with two central midfielders and Nunez. Looking at City's midfield, I believe Liverpool require at least one midfielder."

"They're going in for Nunez because City have Haaland," he added. He'll be unstoppable, and they'll be unstoppable, next season.

"Liverpool needed to make a strong statement. Mane is leaving. But Diaz, Jota, and Salah aren't enough to compete with City, in my opinion."

Last season, Liverpool finished a point behind Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the Premier League. Both teams were in excellent form towards the end of the season, with neither losing a game from March onwards, including a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium in April.

They also came up short in the Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid. The Reds did, however, win the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, both on penalties against Chelsea.
