Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and former President of the National House of Chiefs, says that while he is open to criticism from TV personality Paul Adom-Otchere, he should not be dishonest in his remarks about him.
The traditional ruler is astonished by the ace broadcaster's remarks regarding his attendance at meetings during his time on the Council of State, according to him.
Togbe Afede said in an exclusive interview with JoyNews' Maxwell Agbagba on Thursday that, contrary to Paul's prior assertions, he carried out his duties as a member of the Council of State diligently.
In this regard, he stated that despite being an active member of the Council, he saw the ex-gratia. Mr Adom-Otchere should not speak lies about him given the circumstances, according to the money that was provided to him as superfluous.
"The distortion was the source of my amazement. You are free to criticize me. You are free to disagree with my viewpoints, but you must not lie. Don't state, for example, that Togbe pretended to be from Ho when he presented himself to the Council of State and received transportation benefits. When he realized it wasn't true. He knew I'd never do something like that based on my personality.
I live in Accra, Ghana. When I'm working or receiving transportation allowances, I'm not one of those who will claim not to reside in Accra and use government hostel facilities. That is not my personality.
He is aware of the situation. As a result, that section bothers me. Also, the insinuation that I was frequently missing from Council of State meetings pains me because it is untrue, and he knows it is untrue," he bemoaned.
"So that amount of dishonesty affects me," Togbe Afede remarked. That degree of depravity was something I couldn't stand. You can criticize me and claim that you don't understand why I should return the money, but don't back up your claims with lies. That aspect is something I really disagree with."
Mr. Adom-Otchere said in an editorial on Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday that Togbe Afede only attended 16 percent of meetings during his time on the Council of State.
According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Paramount Chief honored just 48 of the Council's 242 sessions over that time span, accounting for 16 percent of the total.
This was revealed by the broadcaster when discussing why Togbe Afede returned the ex-gratia that had been awarded to him.
Despite the fact that the decision has been welcomed as a patriotic gesture on social media, he believes he does not understand why the traditional leader has been praised.
