The Green Ghana project will be launched by the Forestry Commission later today.

The goal of the initiative is to plant around 20 million trees across the country.

The Lands and Natural Resource Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said that the seedlings will be made up of both economic and commercial trees prior to their implementation.

"We are planting mahogany, we are planting wawa, we are growing rosewood, coconut, palm, mango, and orange trees," he said on JoyFM's Super Morning Show on Wednesday, June 8.

In addition, he remarked, "We are partnering with the Ministry of Local Government's parks and gardens department to plant attractive trees on the avenues of our capital cities so that we may beautify the area."

capital cities of our country's regions."

The seedlings would be free and available at all Forestry Commission offices, District Assemblies, and other malls around the country, according to Mr. Jinapor. As a result, he asked everyone to take part in the activity.

Meanwhile, the Forestry Commission has allayed worries that the government may fall short of the 20 million tree planting objective set for the Green Ghana Project in 2022.

Some environmental activists have questioned the target's viability.  However, John Allotey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, believes that the 20 million objective can be met.

"The 20 million tree planting initiative has been divided into two sections this year. A total of ten million dollars will be invested in forest reserves, which will increase the forest stock. The remaining ten million dollars will be used to enhance our environment. In the forest reserves, the locations have been prepared. In an interview, he remarked, "We have the seedlings ready, and we're going to plant more of the indigenous wood species in the forest reserves."

This is the project's second edition.  It began in 2021 as part of the government's efforts to conserve and safeguard the country's forest cover and the ecosystem as a whole, and the President has designated it an annual event.
