Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has indicated that the government is almost through with a process that would ensure that new born newborns receive the Ghana card.

According to him, work has already begun to put the new arrangement into action this year, with the Ghana Statistical Service donating 13 thousand tablets to the Ghana Health Service to help with the initiative.

He stated no one can operate without the Ghana card once the integration is complete, speaking at the inauguration of the No Guarantor Student Loan Scheme in Kumasi on Wednesday.

In 2018, the government announced a plan to create a database economy, with digitization as a key tool for economic development.

Dr. Bawumia stated that work on integrating the Ghana Drivers' License, Birth and Death Registry has already begun.  The Ghana Health Service, for example, is integrated into the Ghana card system.

He explained that the goal is to catapult Ghana into the fourth industrial revolution.

"We're connecting the Ghana Health Service and the National Identification Authority to the Birth and Death Registry."

Your Ghana Card number will be assigned to you at the time of your birth.

The Ghana Card number will accompany you from birth through senior high school; it will also accompany you to elementary school. It will follow you all the way to college. As a result, we've linked Ghana Health Services and the Birth and Death Registry to the National Identification System."

The integration, according to Dr. Bawumia, will imply that the Ghana card will become the formal foundation for all economic activities in Ghana.

"From birth to death, your Ghana Card number will be with you." That is how we create a data anchor," he explained.

"By the way, we're almost done with this activity, and I'm pushing them to start it this year." This isn't a futuristic situation. With the integration that we're working on, we're almost there.  We're creating an entire ecosystem around the Ghana Card, and without it, you won't be able to exist in this nation."
