Paul Adom-Otchere, the host of Good Evening Ghana, GEG, who is known for his feisty, spirited, and controversial monologues on issues of national interest, appears to have gotten on the nerves of Ghanaians when he decided to run commentary on Togbe Afede XIV refunding his over GHC365k ex-gratia to the state.
The Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited claimed on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, that the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, President of the Asogli Traditional Area, need more than the GHC365k ex-gratia that he repaid.
Togbe Afede XIV, according to Adom-Otchere, only attended 16 percent of the Council of State meetings while receiving all of the salaries and benefits due to members of the Council of State, including transportation allowances, because the traditional ruler claimed that he always travels from Ho to attend the meetings while residing in Accra.
"The Council of State had 242 sessions throughout the 48 months, and Togbe Afede XIV attended 39 [meetings], accounting for 16 percent," Paul Adom-Otchere remarked on his show on Tuesday.
"Every month, the Council of State gets paid, and he [Togbe Afede] took all his wages, which he is entitled to," he said. He should have stated in his narrations that he was unable to attend all Council of State meetings, yet he took all of his salaries, including his car loan and a waiver from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to import cars...the amount of money government [took] off the loans that were paid to Council of State members is more than the GH365k he is talking about, for a person who only attended 16 percent of Council of State meetings...
"If you look at the Council of State transportation allowances, Togbe's payment was given as of arriving from Ho in the Volta region; some of the members informed me he resides in Accra normally, but he stated he was coming from Ho."
However, Togbe Afede XIV, who had been watching the performance and was dissatisfied with Paul Adom-monologue, Otchere's decided to write him [Adom-Otchere] a WhatsApp message on Wednesday, June 8.
On Wednesday, June 8, the traditional ruler denounced the host of GEG as "shameful" who "always tells lies to earn a living," based on parts of their exchanges in the past and his recent WhatsApp messages.
"It's shameful that you continue to make a life by lying. You must offer proof of my plenary and committee meeting attendance records, as well as your claim that I registered as coming from Ho to Council meetings and earned transportation allowance as a result," Togbe Afede XIV wrote to Paul Adom-Otchere on WhatsApp.
This prompted Adom-Otchere to seek documents from the Council of State meetings from the time Togbe Afede was a member to the conclusion of their term.
