Super Eagles off to winning start, Egypt paralyzed in Lilongwe

A bustling Thursday in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying was featured by a hard-battled win for Nigeria over Sierra Leone, as well as Egypt tumbling to an unexpected loss away to Ethiopia in Lilongwe.

The Super Eagles needed to fight against eminent loss to guarantee triumph over the Leone Stars, as Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen struck directly following Jonathan Morsay's initial opener for the guests at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

However Nigeria's success just leaves them second in Group A, as Guinea-Bissau lead the way after their determined 5-1 success over Sao Tome and Principe. Alfa Semedo, Zinho Gano (two), Zidane Banjaqui and Jorginho struck for the Djurtus at Stade Adrar in Agadir.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria retaliate from a goal to win 2-1. Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimehen get on the scoresheet as they win their most memorable #AFCON2023Q match.

Bunch D's two matches have left every one of the four groups level on three focuses, as Ethiopia shocked Egypt 2-0 in Lilongwe - because of first-half strikes from Dawa Hotessa and Shimelis Bekele - while Guinea edged Malawi 1-0 in Conakry with a late goal from star midfielder Naby Keita.

Bunch K likewise at last got going, with Morocco fighting against eminent loss to overcome South Africa 2-1 in Rabat.

Bafana rode their karma, scoring first through Lyle Foster on the counter assault and depending on a few magnificent recoveries from goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, in any case they were outmatched by the Atlas Lions, who evened out through Youssef En-Nesyri right off the bat in the last part and scored a late victor by means of Ayoub El Kaabi.

Morocco get their #AFCON2023Q mission looking winning so far. They dig out from a deficit to take each of the three focuses against South Africa.

The day's initial games were played in Groups C and G, with heavyweights Cameroon and Mali asserting away wins over Burundi and South Sudan separately.

The Indomitable Lions moved to the highest point of Group C with a 1-0 win over Burundi in Dar es Salaam thanks to Karl Toko Ekambi's first-half strike, while the Eagles crushed South Sudan 3-1 in Entebbe (kindness of injury time goals from Sekou Koita and Aliou Dieng, in spite of being down to 10 men) to open a noteworthy lead at the highest point of Group G over Gambia and Congo.

In Group H, 2023 competition has Ivory Coast were held 0-0 in Soweto by Lesotho. The Elephants lead the standings on four focuses, with Zambia and Comoros on three each, while Lesotho have placed their primary point on the board in fourth spot.
