Chile overlooking conversation about World Cup lifeline - Eduardo Berizzo
Chile manager Eduardo Berizzo says reports that they are set to supplant Ecuador at the World Cup have "definitely no effect" on his players regardless of a 2-0 loss Friday to Qatar-bound Tunisia.
Reports this week said Ecuador are set to be removed from the November-December masterpiece for handling an ineligible player during capability, with a decision from Fifa expected soon.
Fifa has been researching claims that defender Byron Castillo, who played in eight of Ecuador's 18 qualifiers, was really brought into the world in Colombia.
Assuming Fifa reject Ecuador it could open the entryway for Chile to play at the World Cup.
"Obviously we're observing cautiously to see what Fifa's choice is nevertheless nothing has been formally settled and I can't offer any remark," the Argentine Berizzo said after his group were beaten by Tunisia in a well disposed in Kobe, Japan.
"It no affects the environment in the group and the work we are doing consistently here. We view at it as something totally different."
This was Chile's second loss this week, having lost by the equivalent scoreline to South Korea in Daejeon on Monday.
Chile are presently in Japan playing in the four-group Kirin Cup competition alongside Tunisia, Japan and Ghana - all groups who qualified for the World Cup.
Berizzo asked his players to be prepared for anything choice Fifa makes.
"I've seen that every one of the players are battling for their places, so these games have been vital as far as we're concerned," he said.
"From this point forward, the players will return to their clubs and I believe they should keep up the level and the power that they've been playing with."
