In the midst of Chelsea transfers, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand have had an agreement on Raheem Sterling and Chelsea move

Raheem Sterling has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea, and Frank Lampard's previous assessment of the Manchester City forward suggests the Blues' interest is justified.

Chelsea are rumored to be interested in signing Raheem Sterling this summer. According to the Telegraph, the Blues are the English club that has shown the most interest in the England international so far.

With the summer transfer window officially opening tomorrow (Friday), Chelsea's first few months under new ownership are expected to be hectic. Plenty of departures are expected from the club, as well as incomings, as Thomas Tuchel seeks to build a squad capable of competing the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in next season's Premier League.

Following the news that Romelu Lukaku wishes to leave the club this summer, the Blues have been linked with a number of attacking players in recent days. Football.london understands that Gabriel Jesus is a target, but it appears that one of the Brazilian's City teammates, Sterling, is also on the shortlist.

According to the report (see above), Sterling, who has one year left on his contract with Manchester City, is attracting interest from all over Europe. Real Madrid are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, but Chelsea are the most interested of the English clubs.

Sterling has been a revelation in Manchester for the past almost seven years, scoring 91 goals in 225 Premier League games.  However, the 27-year-old has not been guaranteed a place in Pep Guardiola's team this season, with City having a plethora of talented attackers to choose from.

The England international has established himself as one of the league's most potent attackers during his time at City. Despite playing on the wing, he has developed a knack for finding himself in the right place and has almost turned into a poacher in front of goal.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard described Sterling as "world-class" after England's 4-0 win over Ukraine in Euro 2020 last summer. He told BBC Sport: "He's fantastic. As a player, I adore him." He's had a drop in form, and he'll admit it, but what we're seeing  is the player we've seen for the last three years. If I'm talking to a young, aspiring winger who wants to play now, he's an example on and off the field "He's been through a lot, but he's still standing tall and looking like a man. He is simply a world-class player."

Rio Ferdinand, who was working for the BBC alongside Lampard at the Euros, added: "He has undoubtedly been our [England's] best and most effective player in this tournament. He has a steely demeanor. He mentioned in that VT [before the game] that he's received criticism throughout his career. He's always responded to criticism.

"He's single-minded, focused, and considers not only the pitch, but also other factors. The mentality, the comprehension of what he must do off the pitch in terms of preparation and recovery, the care he takes to ensure he continues to play and perform at this level."

Chelsea's chances of landing Sterling this summer may be hampered by the fact that he admitted in October 2021 that he would consider moving abroad at some point in his career. With Real Madrid reportedly interested, the Jamaican-born winger may prefer a move to Madrid.

"If there was an option to go somewhere else for more game time, I would be open to it," he said last year. As an English player, I'm only familiar with the Premier League, and I've always thought, 'You know, maybe one day I'd like to play abroad and see how I'd fare against that challenge.'"
