Barcelona has completed the signing of 21-year La Liga right-back
Barcelona's pursuit of star players like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Cesar Azpilicueta, among others, has been well documented this summer, as the Catalans look to bolster their ranks ahead of the new season.
However, as part of the club's policy of promoting young talents, Barça is also scouring the market for hidden gems across Spanish and European football.
Barcelona has signed Emre Demir and Pablo Torre ahead of the new season, with Xavi in particular having high hopes for the latter.
In yet another coup, the club appears to have completed the signing of Alvaro Nunez, a 21-year-old defensive talent who was previously with Athletic Club's reserve squad until this past season.
The capture was confirmed in an interview by Iaki Arechabaleta, the Athletic Club subsidiary's pre-candidate for president.
Nunez, a Bilbao native, had been a member of the club's youth system since he was a child, until he completed his contract at the end of the 2021/22 season. Barcelona has signed the youngster, who is currently a free agent.
Nunez will be assigned to the Barcelona B squad. As a right-back by trade, he will have to fight for a spot in the reserve team, which will be led by Sergi Barjuan once again, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future in recent months.
Barcelona's right-back woes have been well documented recently, particularly with the club expected to offload Sergino Dest in the coming summer.
Dani Alves is not expected to stay past the end of 2022, and potential new signing Cesar Azpilicueta is already nearing the end of his career, paving the way for Nunez to make his senior debut.
Nunez, on the other hand, has a long way to go with no prior experience in top-flight football before establishing himself as a first-team option for FC Barcelona in the near future.
