In a gun fight in Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region's Ga South Municipality, one person has been reported killed.
Two additional people, including a 15-year-old kid, are now being treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds and injuries.
According to reports, the two factions battled over who had the authority to perform rituals to overturn the ban on drumming and noise making, which had been in place since Thursday, June 9.
"Because a town leader is deceased, one group cautioned the other not to indulge in drumming and noise-making." "However, this did not sit well with members of the other faction, who picked up arms and began firing, killing one person and wounding two others, including a 15-year-old child," a local told Citi News.
The two patients will be moved to the Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital for additional treatment, according to Jerry Nunoo, a medical assistant at the Kokrobite Health Centre.
"After the gun fight, two casualties were brought here — a 38-year-old woman and a 15-year-old kid," he added. The boy's right arm was perforated, while the lady's thighs were punctured on both sides."
Although the perpetrators remain unknown, the Kokrobite Police have visited the village and restored peace. Drumming and making noise are prohibited.
The prohibition on drumming and creating noise began on Monday, May 9 and will last until Thursday, June 9, 2022.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) issued a statement urging all people, towns, and villages in the Ga Traditional Area to cooperate and follow the instruction.
During this time, churches were advised to keep their activities within their buildings and avoid utilizing musical instruments. Loud speakers were also prohibited from being placed outside of churches, mosques, and taverns, and road evangelists discontinued their operations.
"Other Ga Traditional Council (GTC) directives included a prohibition on burial ceremonies and associated activities."
