INCONSISTENCY IN CHELSEA'S ATTACKING ROLE

Chelsea as a football club has had difficulties in signing good and quality attackers that would fit well into the team. Frank Lampard is still the club's top scorer with 211 goals as a MIDFIELDER

In the history of the club, there has not been any striker to score more than 200 goals, the only one to come close was DIDIER DROGBA, with 164 goals in 381 games. So far, he's the club's greatest striker to to reach this limit.

During Drogba's era, Chelsea bought Fernando Torres from Liverpool as a typical striker, who was expected to score more and more goals as he was doing at Liverpool. After 4 seasons at Chelsea, Torres scored 45 goals which made the club and its supporters very disappointed in the player.

Chelsea signed more attackers since then, with names like; SAMUEL ETO'O who scored 12 goals in 35 games during Jose Mourinho's second spell at Chelsea. He left the club as soon as Mourinho spell was over.

Diego Costa, who played so well during Antonio Conte era in 2016-2017 season scoring 59 goals also left the club when Conte had left. He made a massive impact during that era.

Strikers like ; Gonzalo Higuain, Morata and Oliver Giroud all were signed to Chelsea to impress the supporters by scoring more goals and remain consistent but, their period at the club was over when the fans felt they were disappointed in them.

Last two seasons, Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner also signed for Chelsea with much hope that they would change situations around the club. Unfortunately injuries came in the way of these players and couldn't live to expectations.

Romelu Lukaku was the club's biggest signing in the 2021-2022 season. He was brought from Inter Milan after being the top scorer for Inter Milan. Lukaku wasn't different from the previous attackers at Chelsea, according to the player he felt the system at the team isn't favoring him and wish to make a return to his former club.

Chelsea is still in the transfer market looking for good attackers to sign.
