Uneasy calm at Ahanta West as chief is set ablaze in his vehicle, police arrest 8.

The police in the Ahanta West Municipality have detained eight (8) people for allegedly setting fire to the Egyambra Chief.

According to 3news.com, the victim, Nana Blaychie, was set ablaze in his vehicle.

The incident was reported by Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, John Agyare, who stated that it occurred on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in the afternoon.

"I was in a conference resolving another issue when I heard that the installation of a chief in Egyambra was causing some confusion. We swiftly rushed officers to the neighborhood, but some residents began throwing stones at the officers. According to the police commander's briefing, "about eight people have been apprehended thus far."

He went on to say that he believes the disturbances are being caused by the followers of two others who are also seeking the chieftaincy stool.

However, the victim, Chief Nana Blaychie, who is currently receiving medical care, is alleged to have stated that there was no pandemonium surrounding his installation in the town.

He went on to say that shortly after that, he and some of his elders were halted by some young men.

"I was in a vehicle with my elders after my successful installation when some young men stopped us along the route. They doused my driver in gasoline and lit the car on fire while we were still inside. My driver received serious burns, but I was fortunate to have evacuated the vehicle before it caught fire. "I'm currently having treatment in the hospital with my driver and other elders," he explained.

Meanwhile, the MCE for the area, John Agyare, has stated that he will endeavor to restore calm in the neighborhood.

Augustine Dua, a member of the unit committee who has since fled the area, told the portal that he does not know where his wife and children are.

"As I speak with you, I have no idea where my wife and children are." The neighborhood is now deserted, and we're appealing with the IGP to help us," he said, sobbing uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, there are indications that several inhabitants of the neighborhood have fled the area owing to the unrest.
