On behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation and Member of Parliament for Juaben Constituency, Ama Pomaa Boateng led staff and officers as well as other heads of departments of state agencies under the Ministry to plant seedlings in commemoration of the second edition of the Green Ghana Day on Friday, June 10, 2022.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the significance of the event when speaking to the media at the Ministry, emphasizing that "this is part of efforts to recover the country's lost forest cover and also improve the quality of the air we breathe."
She asked the public to support the government's initiative and participate in any campaign to encourage people to plant trees. The Deputy Minister went on to say that it is incumbent on all of us to care for the trees we plant, to take personal responsibility for them, to water them, and to ensure that they are well established.
"MoCD is delighted to be a part of the green Ghana day," she says. Everything electronic is with us as part of our mandate, and we all know that we utilize all of these electronic gadgets from our automobiles to our houses to what we study or work with. The basic materials utilized to make these modern devices come from our forest. As a result, one of the areas in which we are particularly concerned is the removal or replacement of trees.
Gold, silver, plastics, and other materials, for example, are all components that make up We utilize a lot of devices. And when trees are torn down, it signifies that we are depleting our resources by producing these devices, therefore we must replace them.
Our focus in replacing them is on technological trash, whether to recycle or plant trees, but we are doing both. We'll keep raising awareness so that everyone understands that once we live a digital existence, whether it's to learn, work, or play, we need to replace the raw materials that go into these electronic devices."
So, with great pleasure, the Ministry is assisting other Ministries and all Ghanaians in replacing the trees that are being chopped down, as well as ensuring that we pay close attention to climate change and educating the general public on the fact that whatever devices we use have an impact on the trees.
