According to reports, Manchester United will not engage a bidding war to try to sabotage Darwin Nunez's potential move to Liverpool. Both Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in the Uruguayan striker, but the Reds appear to be the most likely bidders. They are in talks with Benfica about a transaction, and personal conditions are thought to have already been agreed upon verbally with Nunez.
Nunez rose to attention last season after scoring 34 goals for Benfica, who advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals before losing to Liverpool. The tall striker, who is still only 22, has established himself as one of Europe's most promising up-and-coming centre-forwards.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expecting Sadio Mane to join Bayern Munich, and the Reds are willing to pay a club-record fee to Benfica to sign Nunez, who is also being pursued by Manchester United. They were rumored to be considering a late bid to sign him, possibly outbidding Liverpool. Earlier this week, it was reported that United officials would meet with Nunez's agent, Jorge Mendes, to see if a late hijacking would be considered.
However, according to the Goal report While the Red Devils have been in communication with Nunez's representatives for some time and would like to sign him, they are unwilling to engage in a bidding battle with arch-rivals Liverpool. The attacker is said to be keen on a move to Merseyside.

Even if they submit a larger proposal, United believes they will still lose out. That's because Klopp has made Nunez his primary objective as he looks to bolster his attacking line with another Portuguese transfer after only signing Luis Diaz from the country last summer.
Despite earlier stating his desire to remain in Spain, talks with Barca are ongoing, and it appears increasingly likely that the Dutchman will transfer to Old Trafford. To raise funds, the La Liga giants may reluctantly trade the ex-Ajax midfielder, who played under Ten Hag in Amsterdam.
United has yet to make a formal bid, and the club does not want to be dragged into overpaying for De Jong, despite the fact that he is seen as the ideal player for Ten Hag's style. The Netherlands international will cost at least the £65 million Barcelona paid Ajax in 2019 to sign him.
According to BBC Sport, the Red Devils have other options and are willing to give up on De Jong if a deal cannot be reached for the price they want to pay. West Ham's Declan Rice and Leeds' Kalvin Phillips may be Plan Bs, but they'd be costly.
Ten Hag wants to sign five players this summer, and Jurrien Timber, the Ajax defender who thrived under his tutelage last season, could be one of them. Timber, a 20-year-old Dutchman, is a centre-back who can also play right-back.
