Liverpool is prepared to pay Gavi's release clause
According to an exciting transfer report from Spain, Liverpool is willing to trigger Gavi's €50 million (£42.5 million) release clause at Barcelona this summer.
The skinny: Gavi's fate is still unknown.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the world's most prodigiously gifted young players, with Xavi describing him as a "spectacular" talent.
Gavi is already a regular for both Barcelona and Spain, with six assists in 46 appearances for the former and nine caps for the latter.
The midfielder has yet to sign a new contract at Barcelona, and his current deal expires next summer, with Liverpool recently linked with a move and Fabrizio Romano revealing on Friday that there is still no agreement over a new deal just yet.
The Latest: Liverpool is still interested in a move
The Reds are still interested in signing Gavi this summer, according to Spanish outlet Beteve, and are willing to pay his £42.5 million release clause.
His preference is still to remain a Barcelona player, but he has yet to be impressed with their contract offers, and the Reds are willing to offer him €9 million per year, which equates to about £147k per week.
The verdict: It appears unlikely.
While the prospect of Liverpool signing Gavi is exciting, it appears unlikely given his ties to Barcelona and the loyalty he will most likely show to his boyhood club.
He has a legendary figure to learn from in Xavi as manager, and he and His representatives will almost certainly believe that it is best for his development for him to remain at Camp Nou and mature.
It is fantastic to see Liverpool even in the running for such a special talent, highlighting the force Jurgen Klopp has turned them into.
