Chelsea has announced the departure of four players, including Andreas Christensen, and a £35 million flop
Chelsea have published their retained list following the end of the 2021/22 season, and four players have left Stamford Bridge due to the expiration of their contracts.
Andreas Christensen, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Barcelona, has left Stamford Bridge after spending the last decade there after leaving Danish side Brondby in 2012. The 54-cap Dane made 161 first-team appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring twice and winning the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
Danny Drinkwater, who joined from Leicester in a £35 million deal, in 2017, departs the club having not made a senior appearance for the Blues since the 2018 Manchester City won the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Drinkwater scored once in 23 games for Chelsea and was loaned out four times, the most recent being for the duration of the 2021/22 Championship season with Reading. Drinkwater has also had loan spells with Burnley, Aston Villa, and Turkish club Kasimpasa.
Charly Musonda has left Chelsea after ten years at the club. Musonda played seven times for Chelsea during a spell that included long absences due to injury, including three Premier League appearances, with his lone goal coming in the EFL Cup victory over Nottingham Forest in 2017.
Thomas Tuchel has been dealt a major blow ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Chelsea yet to offer Reece James a new contract. The 22-year-old, whose current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid since their Champions League quarter-final clash two months ago.
Carlo Ancelotti, according to the Mirror, has put the defender at the top of his summer shopping list. Los Blancos have reportedly been impressed by James after seeing him nine times this season.
