After a breakthrough in negotiations, Zidane is set to replace Pochettino as PSG manager

Zinedine Zidane is now the favourite to succeed Mauricio Pochettino as manager of Paris Saint-Germain, according to GOAL, following a breakthrough in negotiations between the former France star's representatives and the Ligue 1 champions.

Despite returning to domestic success this season, the Parc des Princes club has been looking to replace the Argentine with a new manager ahead of the upcoming season.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, one of the most decorated coaches of the last decade after two spells in charge of Los Blancos, has long been linked with the position - but has now reportedly edged closer to the position amid a reportedly eye-watering offer.

What will Zinedine Zidane bring to PSG?

Having been out of club management since his second departure from the Santiago Bernabeu in 2021, the Frenchman would bring to Paris one of the most feared managerial records in the game.

Between 2016 and 2018, Zidane won La Liga in his first season and a remarkable hat-trick of Champions League finals, amassing a superb 70.47 per cent win ratio during his tenure.

That European nous may be the most appealing aspect to PSG, who have yet to add the biggest title in continental club football to their trophy cabinet.

They fell short once more this season, following a thrilling last-16 loss to Real Madrid in which they collapsed dramatically against Los Angeles.

What will Zidane inherit as manager of Parc des Princes?

The 49-year-old will join a squad in flux after what many fans saw as a disappointing season last season, despite reclaiming the Ligue 1 title from Lille.

Angel Di Maria has left on a free transfer, and there is speculation that the club will entertain bids for Neymar, the world's most expensive transfer when he arrived from Barcelona.

Zidane will have access to two of the game's biggest stars in Kylian Mbappe, who snubbed Real Madrid to sign new terms in a sensational transfer saga, and Lionel Messi, who joined on a free transfer from Barcelona last year.

Sergio Ramos, the former player, would also be reunited.

When is it possible that Zidane will join PSG?

No announcement appears to be on the horizon, with Zidane's representative, Alain Migliaccio, claiming that no agreement has been reached as of yet.

"All these rumors are unfounded," he told L'Equipe."

I am currently the only person who can represent Zinedine Zidane. PSG's owner has not directly contacted either Zidane or myself."
