Arsenal's failure to sign Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans must elicit a response

Arsenal's potential failure to sign Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans during the transfer window requires a quick response.

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Gabriel Jesus this summer, putting Arsenal in a difficult position if they fail to persuade the Brazilian to join them. With each passing day, the possibility that Edu will fail this window grows more frustrating.

Youri Tielemans appears to be the most likely player on the list, but given the strong rumors that Gabriel Jesus is set to join the Emirates, any player could change his mind. Arsenal is out of the Champions League football appears to be the deciding factor in these potential disappointments.

It should be noted that Arsenal is still in control of both Jesus and Tielemans at this point. Competition for players of this caliber is common, especially when the primary candidate club faces an impediment, such as missing out on the top four.

However, Edu mentioned a 'plan' prior to the window opening. This increased expectations, and any good plan will have backup plans.

"We preferred to use the budget we used last summer to rebalance the squad; there was no point in hiring one or two players [in January], the squad was not prepared to absorb two players, we needed to rebalance the squad," Edu told ESPN Brasil. "Perhaps we can go to one or two players next season." Today, we discover a much more balanced squad. Our planning has already been done; it has already reached the owners."

A Liverpool fan claims that French police are targeting English fans.

Police used tear gas on the Liverpool fan, who said France should never host another European final again.

With this in mind, if deals for Jesus and/or Tielemans do not materialize, the Gunners must be prepared to respond. Fortunately, it appears that the club has other targets in the striker position, in particular. The most likely candidate right now is Gianluca Scamacca, though The Athletic reports that the coaching staff is wary of bringing in a forward with such stark differences to the primary forward, Jesus.

However, the fact that the links are still in place and that other options are being considered should give supporters some hope that plan B, and possibly C, D, and E, will be implemented.

With all of the preparation that has gone into Jesus, missing out on him now appears particularly poor.

In terms of Tielemans, the obvious backup option appears to be Jesus' teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko. Mikel Arteta has admired the Ukrainian since his time in the northwest. However, his resemblance to Granit Xhaka is said to be a minor stumbling block in a potential deal. However, ensuring that alternatives are discussed is a change from previous frustrations caused by the window.

With the domestic signing window now officially open and the wider market opening on July 1st, Arsenal will ramp up their efforts. The conclusion of the season's international football next week will only exacerbate that ethic.

Pre-season begins at the end of this month. The hope is that priority business will be completed by the time the schedule of friendly fixtures arrives, allowing players to settle in, but only time will tell.
