Robbie Keane has questioned why any player would leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich in the face of speculations that Sadio Mane is on his way there.
Liverpool reportedly rejected Bayern Munich's second offer of €35.3 million (£30 million) earlier this week owing to bonus-related add-ons.
Mane has six major titles to his name in six seasons at Anfield, and his contract is up for renewal next year.
However, while on international duty with Senegal last week, the 30-year-old hinted that he is open to leaving the English giants this window.
However, ex-Liverpool striker Keane believes that if Mane transfers from the Premier League runners-up to the Bundesliga champions, he will take a step back in his career.
"Obviously, if Mane leaves, it will be a significant loss for Liverpool," Keane stated at a press conference before of his participation in the Soccer Aid charity event on Sunday.
"It will be a tremendous signing if the reports are true and he joins Bayern Munich." They appear to be losing [Robert] Lewandowski.
"I don't see why you'd want to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich right now."
"Especially with a manager like Jurgen Klopp doing what he's doing right now, winning two cups and looking like he could easily have won four."
"That has taken me by surprise." He's clearly a world-class athlete. I'm convinced he'll fit right in with any team."
Mane has scored 90 goals in 196 Premier League games since joining Liverpool for £34 million from Southampton at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Only Leicester City's Jamie Vardy (104 goals), Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (118 goals), and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane (134 goals) have scored more in the competition during that time.
As a prospective substitute, Jurgen Klopp's club appears to be close to signing Benfica forward Darwin Nunez.
Nunez scored 48 goals in 85 games for Benfica in all competitions last season, 61 of which he started, for an average of 1.2 goals per 90 minutes in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
In the Premier League, Mane scored 0.5 goals per 90 minutes, but in the 2021-22 season, he scored 0.5 goals per 90 minutes over six more games and in a stronger league.
If a contract with Benfica is struck, Keane, who played for Liverpool in 2008-09, believes Nunez will add something unique to the club
Keane commented, "I've seen him play a few times and he's a good player." "He's clearly young, and he's a number nine, which Liverpool hasn't had in quite some time."
"They have [Roberto] Firmino, for sure, but Firmino is a ten." In a long time, there hasn't been a number nine.
"As a result, it'll give others a bit more of a target man to play off of." "I believe the signing will be a success."
Keane is also looking forward to playing in Soccer Aid in collaboration with UNICEF this weekend, a charity match that will help raise funds to provide children with the best possible start in life.
He stated, "We've come to help UNICEF raise as much money as possible."
