As a public responsibility, let us prioritize tree planting and protection - DCE.

To ensure the success of the government's Greening Ghana effort, Mr George Gerard Naluri, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Lambussie in the Upper West Region, has urged locals to prioritize tree planting, nurturing, and protection.

Every citizen, he said, has a civic responsibility to care for and conserve the trees that have been planted to help sustain the environment's vegetative cover and mitigate climate change.

Mr Naluri provided the advice during a brief memorial planting ceremony to mark the "Green Ghana Project," a national tree-planting initiative.

The Green Ghana Project is a government-led endeavor to mobilize Ghanaians for a massive statewide tree-planting campaign.

Mr Naluri said the initiative had been prioritized by the district assembly, and that several varieties of trees will be dispersed and planted throughout the district to aid in the regeneration of vegetation cover.

He explained that the assembly, in partnership with the traditional authorities, had enacted by-laws to aid in the proper implementation of the tree-planting project and the trees' long-term survival.

Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie ll, the Lambussie traditional territory's Paramount Chief, praised the project and said it would help mitigate the effects of climate change in the area, particularly the current instabilities in rainfall patterns.

He pledged the chiefs and people of the district's united commitment to ensure the success of the government's Green Ghana programme in the district.

Mr Dontege Belinku Aloysius, the Lambussie District NADMO Officer, said over 415 various species of trees would be planted in the district's villages, focusing on households and public spaces.

"Households and management of places such as schools and CHIPS compounds, among others, will be urged to take ownership and proper nurturing of the trees to guarantee that the trees live as well as help in the preservation of the environment," he said.
