Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez have already been signed to Manchester City's roster for the 2022/23 season.
Manchester City is a football club based in England.
Manchester City would feel relatively prepared and well-balanced if they started the 2022/23 season with their present team. The fact that chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised additional incomings will reassure fans that Pep Guardiola's dream team is closer than ever.
Erling Haaland is the high-profile attacker City has been after for two years, with Julian Alvarez providing cover as he adjusts to European football. City's squad will grow to 21 players after captain Fernandinho departs, with room for up to four more arrivals if the club so desires.
The Premier League's rules revolve around 'homegrown' players who have been taught by an FA-registered club for three years before turning 21, with a maximum squad size of 25 players and a maximum of 17 players who do not meet this requirement. Furthermore, Phil Foden will progress from an under-21 player who is not required to register to a member of the first team.
So, if Scott Carson remains as City's third-choice goalkeeper, Foden will bring the total number of homegrown players to seven. Homegrown players include Nathan Ake, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, and Raheem Sterling.
With 14 non-homegrown players remaining, including Haaland and Alvarez, City can add up to three non-homegrown players assuming no exits. If they were to include someone who
City, on the other hand, simply require two senior signings to complete the squad's perfect balance. With Fernandinho's departure, there is a void in the defensive midfield, however Ilkay Gundogan may drop back if necessary, and Romeo Lavia is a promising academy product.
Kalvin Phillips, a Leeds and England midfielder, has been linked with City and would take a homegrown position, yet City were keen to deny claims of a £100 million bid for Declan Rice lately, so he will not be signing. Whoever it is, a defensive midfielder is undoubtedly City's next transfer priority in order to maintain the status of having two great players in each position.
The final position that may require reinforcement is left-back. On both sides, Joao Cancelo is a world-class player, but when he or Kyle Walker are out, the full-back space begins to seem sparse. Although City would be foolish not to sign a solid, natural left-back if one were available, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ake have both deputized admirably towards the conclusion of the season.
Marc Cucurella of Brighton has been mentioned several times, but he, like Phillips, would very certainly be a backup. The left-back area does not need to be solved right now because there is enough of acceptable protection.
Replacements for Gundogan, Walker, or any senior member of the club who may leave in the coming years could be another long-term goal. Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Bernardo Silva have all been mooted as potential departures, with City looking for replacements if the right one became available.
Any offensive replacements have already been signed with the arrival of Haaland and Alvarez.
