Man City 'joins' Liverpool in the race to sign a £77,000-per-week Barcelona midfielder.

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to compete with Liverpool for the signing of Barcelona and Spain sensation Gavi.Pep Guardiola wants to buy Barcelona wonderkid Gavi and has described the midfielder as "excellent," according to reports. Liverpool is also interested.Gavi, 17, has had a breakout year for Xavi's side, appearing in 47 games in all competitions. His contract will expire at the end of the 2022/23 season, and no new deal has been reached as of yet. The midfielder is a product of the illustrious La Masia program and has nine caps for Spain.

The teenager's apparent interest in Liverpool was first mentioned earlier this month. Gavi is postponing signing a new contract at the Camp Nou, according to Italian publication La Repubblica, because to interest from a number of European clubs, including the Reds.

According to the article, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is keen to see the young sensation sign a new contract after an outstanding debut season with the club.

Liverpool is willing to pay Gavi's £43 million release clause and offer him a substantially bigger wage, according to claims from Spanish publication Sport.

However, it appears like Man City, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, will be competing for the Reds. Gavi is a huge fan of Guardiola's, and he was asked about him during a celebrity golf tournament in Mallorca. "He's fantastic, like Ansu Fati or Pedri," he stated. It demonstrates that the [Barcelona] youth system has a bright future and is doing excellent job."

After Josep Bartomeu's terrible presidency, Barcelona continues to struggle financially. As a result, they're believed to be having trouble meeting Gavi's alleged demands.

The teenager has apparently been given a pay increase to £33,000 per week by the Nou Camp management. However, this is less than the £77,000 Gavi is seeking, with a four-year contract requiring an annual increase of £19,000 per year.At Barcelona, there is now a genuine concern of losing one of their most promising players.

Gavi would be a wise signing for the Reds, as he has gotten high praise from the footballing globe.

Dani Alves, a Barcelona veteran and current fullback, re-signed with the club in November. "Despite following Barca, I didn't recognize him," he stated in April, referring to Gavi's outstanding impact. He's a player of exceptional ability who, on top of that, possesses a competitive edge. He has a more aggressive personality than Pedri. Without launching too many rockets, I believe they are two players who, like Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta, can define an era."
