Government owes Korle-Bu GH¢5m in COVID treatment – Management.

According to the management of Accra's Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the government owes the facility GHC5 million in COVID-19 expenses.

Dr. Opoku-Ware Ampomah, the hospital's Chief Executive Officer, told GHOne News that a number of problems are impeding the hospital's operation, including cash owing by the government.

"We did perform covid care, and there are some payments outstanding of roughly five million Ghana cedis, for which we are seeking repayment from the Ministry so that we can continue to offer care to our patients."

"You will also recognize that some of the difficulties are beyond the institution's control." Dr. Ampomah added, "We've experienced devaluation and exchange rates that have damaged a lot of our in-put, which is primarily imported."

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, voiced concern about the government's obligation to Korle-Bu.

He went on to say that the Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Hospital's admission demonstrates how the government has mismanaged covid funding.

"As you know, the government declared that COVID-19 treatment would be free. So, according to Korle-books, Bu's the government owes them five million Ghana cedis in covid spending.

"In the meantime, we've spent over 23 billion Ghana cedis and we still owe Korle-Bu five million Ghana cedis," Mr. Akandoh revealed.

A new police station has been established in Akyem Akokoaso, a town in the Ofoase/Ayirebi constituency, thanks to the backing of the constituency's Member of Parliament (MP), Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), joined the MP in handing over the station to the District Police Command.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the facility is part of measures to increase security in the District to complement investments in infrastructure and livelihoods during a brief exercise on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

"Security is an essential component of any community's or country's development. That is why we have worked tirelessly to construct this structure to meet the security demands of my loving residents, particularly those in Akokoaso and its environs," he stated.

Because fighting crime is a community responsibility, the Ofoase Ayirebi MP urged people to contribute their quotas by assisting the police in effectively combating crime in the constituency.

The IGP, who officially opened the facility, instructed his officers to carry out their responsibilities with dignity and respect.

He also instructed his men to make sure that the facility and other resources made available to the service in the constituency to fight crime are properly maintained and cared for.
