Man United are reportedly interested in bringing Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford this summer, with Cristiano Ronaldo laying out the process.

Manchester United are reportedly trying to sign Robert Lewandowski in the hopes of repeating their success in luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

Despite having one year left on his Bayern Munich contract, the Polish striker appears to be on the verge of leaving the Allianz Arena this summer.

Following eight years in Bavaria, he has indicated his desire for a new challenge, with Catalan giants Barcelona emerging as front-runners for his services if he leaves.

The two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on terms for a move to the Camp Nou, and in the meantime, Man United has entered the battle for Lewandowski, with the Red Devils expecting to swoop for the striker if a deal cannot be reached in the near future.

They've already devised a strategy to entice him to Old Trafford. According to The Sun, the Red Devils would have no trouble paying Lewandowski's £400,000 per week salaries.

Meanwhile, it's been speculated that the club might draw inspiration from their successful attempt to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. After being linked with a move to Manchester City, the Portuguese legend made an emotional homecoming to Manchester a year ago.

Despite a dismal season, the Red Devils were able to sign him to a two-year contract, and the 37-year-old went on to score 24 goals in all competitions. United are looking to add extra firepower to the team this summer to supplement the former Real Madrid man's efforts, with Lewandowski a good alternative.

Last season, the Polish striker continued his excellent form, scoring 50 goals. Of course, it's unclear whether United have a realistic chance of landing him, given that the 33-year-old has asked Bayern Munich to allow him go for Barcelona.

I just want to leave Bayern, he told Sport ONET in a Polish interview. More important than the work is loyalty and respect. The greatest thing to do is work together to find a solution.

They wouldn't listen to me until the very end." Something inside of me died, and it's hard for me to recover. You can't make up for it, even if you want to appear professional. I didn't even explore other offers.

While United is interested in Lewandowski, they are still focusing on bolstering Erik ten Hag's midfield options ahead of next season. Barcelona has rejected United's initial approach for Frenkie de Jong, but the Red Devils are poised to re-offer in the near future.

Ruben Neves of Wolves and Youri Tielemans of Leicester are also options if they are unable to sign the Dutchman this summer.
