Arsenal's £45 million plan to sign three "world-class" players - and why Mikel Arteta is upset

Arsenal had three signings in mind back in May, but the club's approach is vexing Mikel Arteta, who may miss out on a top target. Jesus Gabriel

Back a month, Arsenal would have been quietly confident of bringing in three major new signings for under £45 million.

Fast forward four weeks, and the landscape has shifted as Mikel Arteta's dissatisfaction with the Emirates grows. The Gunners must recruit without the ability to offer Champions League football, which naturally reduces their appeal.

Gabriel Jesus is regarded as their main target, but his days at Manchester City appear to be numbered following the arrival of Erling Haaland. They were also interested in joining the race for Paulo Dybala, who recently saw his contract at Juventus expire after long-term talks in Turin

Arsenal, on the other hand, is not engaging in any transfer activity until their American owners sign off on any deals. As a result, they have been somewhat hesitant in the market, allowing their competitors to circle for several of their targets - leaving Arteta unimpressed.

In recent months, he has seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette leave the club without compensation. As a result, the club is lacking in attack and lacks the funds to replace them in order to remain competitive in the top flight.

As he considers his future following the arrival of Haaland and Julian Alvarez, Jesus was originally available for just over £40 million.

Arteta has worked with the Brazilian as an assistant at City and understands what he would bring to the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Dybala was involved in lengthy contract negotiations in Italy but was eventually able to reach an agreement with Juventus. He has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, but Arsenal declined to pursue the deal due to his wage demands, and Inter Milan currently hold the lead.

Arsenal's reported interest in Brazilian teenager Marquinhos in May was recently backed up by a £3 million deal. He has made 33 senior appearances for his current club Sao Paulo. As a result, he has been capped by Brazil at the U16 and U17 levels.

"We are going to have certain things," Arteta said of the club's plans not unlimited resources, some resources and We have to play and do what we have to do the best we can with the resources we have. We don't know what the rest of the league will have in terms of resources, which I'm assuming will be difficult because it's no longer a top three or top four league. The top eight or ten teams are now involved. That is why we must find a way to replicate what we did last summer."
