Michael Laudrup
In the summer of 1983, Michael Laudrup, one of the best attacking midfielders of his period, agreed to join Liverpool. The Reds insisted on adding a year to Laudrup's agreed-upon three-year contract, which caused the agreement to fall through. The Brondby striker joined Juventus for €1.5 million the following summer after leaving the English giants.
In an interview with Liverpool ECHO, Laudrup praised the Reds as his ideal club, adding that the Reds did make a bid for him back in the day.
Laudrup was a huge success at Juventus, but he was also a big hit at Barcelona and then Real Madrid. During his career in Spain, Laudrup won five La Liga titles, one Champions League, one Copa del Rey, two UEFA Super Cups, and two Spanish Super Cups.
Vidic, Nemanja
Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic is widely considered as one of the best defenders in the world. If Rafael Benitez had his way in 2006, Vidic could have been a Liverpool star. The Serbian admitted that he was on the verge of joining the Reds from Spartak Moscow in 2006, but that his terrible English prevented him from doing so.
During his eight years at Old Trafford, Vidic won five Premier Leagues, a Champions League, and three League Cups, among other honors.
Alexis Sanchez
After three seasons at the Camp Nou, Alexis Sanchez planned to leave the club in 2014. Liverpool wanted Sanchez to replace Luis Suarez, who was set to leave for Barcelona the following summer.
Brendan Rodgers attempted to get the Chilean to Anfield at the time, but Arsenal's Arsene Wenger beat him to it.
Between 2014 and 2018, Sanchez was one of Europe's best players. He scored 80 goals and provided 45 assists in 166 games for Arsenal.
Toni Kroos

When the then-Bayern Munich center midfielder became available for transfer in the summer of 2014, Liverpool decided to throw their hat in the ring. The Reds' manager at the time, Brendan Rodgers, recommended that club captain Steven Gerrard approach Kroos.
Mbappe, Kylian
The world's most wanted striker, Kylian Mbappe, has extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for another three years.
The Frenchman, whose contract was slated to expire in June 2022, first considered a change of scenery but ultimately chose to remain in Paris.
Real Madrid was PSG's biggest competitor in the Mbappe drama, but the teenager revealed that his mother's favorite club, Liverpool, was also addressed.
