Prove you're not behind attacks on Togbe Afede – Asogli Youth to Council of State.
Angry Asogli State youth in the Volta area are pleading with the Council of State to distance itself from Metro TV's Paul Adom-derogatory Otchere's remarks on the Asogli State's overlord, Togbe Afede XIV.
Togbe Afede's choice to return to the state a sum of GHS365,392.67 granted to him as an ex-gratia for sitting on the Council of State between 2017 and 2020, according to the Asogli youth, was a demonstration of statesmanship that deserved praise.
The Asogli Youth stated during a press conference held in Ho on Friday that they believe the Council is assisting the journalist with information in an attempt to assassinate the respected Chief.
"According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Council of State has knowledge on this topic. We find it impossible to believe and so request that the esteemed institution clear its name, or we will presume that they are assisting these nefarious elements in society."
Meanwhile, the group is demanding that the ace broadcaster recant his remarks and apologize, labeling him an enemy of the Asogli people and those of Ewe descent if he fails to do so.
"As soon as possible, we demand that Paul Adom-Otchere retracts and apologizes unequivocally to Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV and the noble people of the Volta area."
"We call on Paul Adom-traditional Otchere's rulers to impress upon him the importance of being responsible in order to avoid inflaming ethnic conflicts if they exist, and to hate disobedience to traditional authority." We call on all Asogli Youth and persons of Ewe descent to treat Paul Adom-Otchere as an enemy if he does not heed our demands," the statement stated.
Following the Agbogbomefia, Togbe Afede XIV's decision to refund the ex-gratia, Paul Adom-Otchere on his Good Evening Ghana show and a Metro TV editorial pounced severely on the latter.
Mr. Adom-Otchere said that Togbe Afede only attended 16 percent of the meetings held by the Council of State throughout his tenure as a member, or 48 out of 242.
Mr. Adom-Otchere argues that the payment of ex-gratia to Article 71 office holders is covered under the 1992 Constitution, and that Togbe Afede's decision to return the money in a way that appeared to depict him as incorruptible was consequently devious.
