Nii Ayikoi Otoo, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant, has urged party members to unify in order to construct a robust and impenetrable defense of the party's successes.

That manner, he claims, the party will be appealing in 2024 and will remain in power.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic last Friday, he said, "Let us remember that the purpose is not to tear ourselves apart and offer ammunition to our opponents, but to work hard to keep power."

Initial difficulties

Although there were some snags during the internal elections that caused alarm, the difficulties were satisfactorily resolved, according to the previous High Commissioner to Canada.  He congratulated all of the winners at each level of the competition.

He also urged all unsuccessful candidates to vow their unwavering support for the party, stating that the election was more about how to "break the eight" for NPP to take power.

Elections in the United States

Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, hoped that the elections for national executive officials will also go well.

The National Officers of the NPP are set to be elected in the Accra Sports Stadium from July 15 to 17, 2022.  "From polling stations through electoral area coordinators to constituency and regional officers, this is a voyage of internal elections," he said.

Following the introduction of the election rules and regulations, he stated that all candidates now understood who the delegates would be who would decide the destiny of national officer candidates.

"The war still remains the Lords," Nii Ayikoi Otoo reminded members of the party.

He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that state ministers and government appointments met the requirements of party members.

Grassroots

He said that it was critical to address the demands of the party's grassroots members, as well as those of unhappy members.  He promised to galvanize grassroots support in order to keep the party in power in 2024.

That, he claimed, he would do by addressing the issues of party members in order to maintain them in the party and recruit new members.

"It is believed that party politics is about numbers," he remarked, "therefore everything humanly possible should be done to avoid party members and sympathizers turning indifferent after the elections."
