The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is getting its act together in preparation for the elections in 2024.
The party claimed to be focused on resuming the mantle of leadership in order to restore optimism to the country.
"We are focusing on re-equipping, re-tooling, and re-positioning our party to prepare ourselves to win the next election and establish the next government," said Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the NDC's National Chairman, at the party's 30th anniversary celebration in Accra on Friday.
Leading members of the party as well as other party supporters attended the event. The party's achievements were lauded by the national chairman, who said that the NDC had contributed more to the country's progress than any other political party under the Fourth Republic.
He claimed that the party's performance while in power was unrivaled in the areas of health, economics, education, energy, and water. Mr Ofosu Ampofo, who kicked off the celebration, said the NDC was a wonderful party, and that it was incumbent on all members to stick to its ideals and programs.
He commended the NDC for introducing and implementing the National Electrification Programme, which connected several of the country's regions, including the then-Brong Ahafo and Northern Ghana, to the national grid.
He said that the NDC administration was responsible for both rural electrification and self-help electrification.
According to the NDC Chairman, the NDC was in office when the electricity generating mix was adjusted and the Aboadze Thermal Plant was built.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo stated that the NDC was the one who launched the establishment of regional hospitals in the health sector.
In terms of education, he claimed that the NDC was responsible for the establishment of all ten polytechnics, which were later promoted to technical universities.
"In this country, there were only three public institutions; any other public university was shut down." He highlighted the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, the University of Health and Allied Science in Ho, the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani, and the University for Environment and Sustainable Development in Somanya as examples of institutions established by the NDC.
He also listed providing water through a modest water supply system, as well as communal water and sanitation as some of the party's accomplishments.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo stated that the party had delivered on its theme of unity, stability, and progress, and that the country had seen similar and unparalleled development.
