Liverpool has been urged to sign two midfielders following the completion of Darwin Nunez's transfer
Darwin Nunez's transfer has completed his medicals this week according to reports
A former midfielder has advised Liverpool to continue their business in the transfer window beyond Darwin Nunez.
Former Liverpool midfielder Michael Thomas has urged the club to sign three new players, including Jude Bellingham and Kalvin Phillips, in addition to Darwin Nunez.
Nunez is on the verge of joining Liverpool for £85 million as the six-time European champions strengthen their attacking line. However, it is expected that, if not this summer, then next, they will look to strengthen their midfield options.
Phillips and Bellingham, both England international midfielders, have been names on many people's lips since their debuts for club and country, with the latter catching the eye despite being in the infancy of his professional career.
And Thomas believes the Reds should approach Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund, as well as bring in competition for England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
"Darwin Nunez has had a really good season for Benfica and all the top teams are looking at him," he told CaughtOffside.
He'll be a fantastic addition. After that, I believe a backup right-back would be adequate to compete with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Joe Gomez performed admirably when called upon, but I prefer him in the center." Depending on the price, Kalvin Phillips could also be a valuable asset. He's not going to Manchester United, so there could be an opening there. I also believe Liverpool will qualify to sign Jude Bellingham If the opportunity arises, which will most likely be next summer. For the midfield, I'd be content with Phillips or Bellingham."
After Erling Haaland's departure to Manchester City, there is a 'acceptance' that it will be difficult to entice Dortmund to the negotiating table for Bellingham this summer.
