This summer, Mikel Arteta could finally land a long-term Arsenal target in a £12.8m bargain transfer
As Mikel Arteta seeks midfield reinforcements, Arsenal may be able to secure a bargain transfer.
Along with a new striker, Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing in a new central midfielder this summer as he seeks more competition for the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.
According to various reports, Youri Tielemans appears to be the frontrunner at this point, with the Belgian having only one year left on his Leicester City contract. However, the transfer window can be unpredictable, so it's always a good idea to have backup plans in place.
It's also worth remembering that Arsenal may require
two midfielders later down the line if there is a key departure. AS Roma are still thought to be interested in Xhaka, and any transfer would have a significant impact on the club's plans.
The Arsenal hierarchy is said to admire Wolves' Ruben Neves, but the Premier League club's high asking price appears to have dampened interest for the time being. Despite this, there are still plenty of potential options, and a new name could be on the market soon.
According to Bild, Bayern Munich would be willing to sell Marcel Sabitzer for a fee of around €15 million (£12.8 million). The 28-year-old joined the club last summer after impressing for RB Leipzig. However, a lack of playing time has reportedly caused him to consider his future.
Arsenal was first associated with the Austrian a couple of years ago, However, they have been linked in other Bild reports since his struggles at Bayern. This comes as no surprise given Sabitzer's playing style, which is ideal for Arteta's team.
Throughout his career, he has played in eleven different positions, ranging from right wing to midfield and even left back. Today, he spends most of his time in central midfield, both attacking and defending. Sabitzer is also a leader and a goal threat from the center of the field, which Arsenal has lacked in recent seasons.
Tielemans, I believe, should be a priority, but if a deal falls through or someone like Xhaka leaves, Sabitzer should be a priority shrewd bit of business for the Gunners.
