The National Organiser of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has stated that Asante Kotoko will receive government backing for their African campaign.

The Reds will get the opportunity to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League next season after winning the Ghana Premier League in 2021/22.

Sammi Awuku, speaking to Akoma FM, praised Asante Kotoko for their success this season.

The NLA Director-General urged the team to improve their offensive while also reassuring them that they would be supported in their Africa mission.

"I think it's been terrific in terms of tactical discipline, but their scoring ability is something they (Kotoko) should concentrate on."

"In Africa, such opportunities cannot be squandered." However, their overall game plan appears to be superb.

"The government, like the NLA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will do its part to gather funds for Kotoko to do well in Africa," Sammi Awuku stated.

Asante Kotoko were awarded as champions of the Ghana Premier League season 2021/22 on Sunday, June 12.

Following the 3-0 victory over Elmina Sharks, the coronation ceremony took place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. In other related news,

Bernard Don Bortey, a veteran of Asante Kotoko, says he would be thrilled if Fabio Gama was a Ghanaian.

Since joining the Porcupine Warriors, the Brazilian newcomer has been a constant source of excitement.

Gama joined the club on a two-year agreement at the start of the 2020/21 season and has quickly established himself as one of the team's best players.

Despite injuries, the 29-year-old has made an impression this season.

Gama was in his element as he played a key role in Kotoko's 3-0 triumph over Elmina Sharks in the matchday 33 games at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday night.

Bortey also claims that he has seen better players than Gama, but that the Brazilian is a smart player.

He went on to say that he envies the playmaker and wishes he [Fabio Gama] was Ghanaian.

"I've been watching Fabio Gama very closely and he's a very cerebral player," the former Hearts of Oak striker told Kumasi-based Pure FM.

"I've played with better players than Fabio Gama, but I wish he [Fabio Gama] was Ghanaian."

"He has excellent ball control and can easily locate holes in the opposing box," he continued.

Gama's contract with Asante Kotoko will not be extended at the end of the season.
