Gareth Southgate knows what England needs to succeed, according to Harry Kane, who defended the Three Lions manager who is currently under pressure.

After a 1-0 loss to Hungary, England was held to a pair of draws against Germany and Italy in June, failing to win any of their three Nations League matches.

Relegation from Group A3 remains a possibility for England, who have only scored one goal in those games, and preparation matches for the World Cup in Qatar are restricted due to the competition's mid-season scheduling, giving Southgate's team few chances to establish their rhythm before the event.

Recent performances have raised doubts about Southgate's ability to make the most of a plethora of attacking potential, and he has stated that he will 'not outstay his welcome' in the post.

Kane, on the other hand, has defended the man who led England to their first international final since 1966 last year, where the Three Lions were defeated by Italy in a penalty shoot-out in the Euro 2020 final.

"I believe we are one of England's most successful teams in the last 50 years or more. As a result, I believe we are on the right track "He said this ahead of the match against Hungary on Tuesday.

"I can't say enough good things about Gareth. Gareth is a terrific manager and a fantastic person, and we are all looking forward to another huge event together." " I had him with the Under-21s and then the senior team, and I believe he truly understands what the England team requires to be successful."

Kane continued, " "If you compare where we were in 2016 to where we are now, I believe we have made significant progress. We've overcome several obstacles in important competitions by doing things that an England team hasn't done in a long time.

"We'll continue to work hard to improve and make the country proud. I believe we've accomplished that, and we all share a strong ambition to win a major championship. It's still a possibility, in my opinion."
