Following a goalless draw with arch-rivals Brazil in November, Argentina's World Cup spot was assured.

Last July, Lionel Scaloni's team won the Copa America and will be vying for their third World Cup title.

Australia

After overcoming Peru 5-4 on penalties in the intercontinental play-off, Australia became the penultimate nation to book their berth in Qatar.

The Socceroos will be competing in their fifth World Cup in a row, and Graham Arnold's side will be hoping to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2006.

Belgium

In qualification, Belgium was undefeated, finishing ahead of the likes of Wales and the Czech Republic.

The Red Devils will want to improve on their third-place performance in Russia if they can get stars like Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne fit and firing.

Brazil

Brazil was announced as the first team to advance from South America's CONMEBOL qualification section after a 1-0 win against Colombia in November.

Tite's team would desire to win their first title since 2002, after reigning supreme on five occasions.

Cameroon

Cameroon qualified for Qatar on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate tie with Algeria.

The game went to extra time after Eric Maxim Choupo-goal, Moting's and it took Karl Toko Ekambi's 124th-minute goal to cancel out Ahmed Touba's score and give Rigobert Song's team the win.

Canada

With a 4-0 win over Jamaica in their penultimate qualification game, Canada qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The current generation is led by English head coach John Herdman and contains a number of European players such as Lille's Jonathan David and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies.

Croatia

After a farcical own-goal gave Croatia a 1-0 win in stormy conditions, they leapfrogged Russia to clinch a spot in Qatar.

Even though their golden generation, which finished second in 2018, is waning, they will still be able to call on legends like Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic in 2022.

Denmark

Denmark, who were unexpected semi-finalists at Euro 2020, continued their good form into World Cup qualification, securing their place in the competition with a 1-0 home win over Austria in October.

Despite the fact that this will be Denmark's sixth World Cup appearance, the Danes have appeared in four of the last six tournaments and will be hoping to improve on their lone quarter-final appearance in 1998.

After winning their place in the 2022 World Cup, Denmark players celebrate with head coach Kasper Hjulmand.

Ecuador

Ecuador needed just a point against Paraguay, who had already been eliminated, to finish in the top four, but they lost 3-1.

Despite the stunning loss, Uruguay's victory over Peru allowed La Tri to qualify for their fourth World Cup.

England

England clinched their place in Qatar 2022 with a spectacular 10-0 thrashing of San Marino in their qualification group, confirming Gareth Southgate's team as group winners.

Fans of the Three Lions will be hoping that they can go one step further in Qatar and win their first trophy since 1966, after reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup before losing the delayed Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties.

France

France, the defending champions, qualified for the finals with an overwhelming 8-0 victory over Kazakhstan in mid-November.

Les Blues will aspire to become only the third side to win back-to-back World Cups with a good tournament in Qatar, despite a poor Euro 2020 campaign.

Germany

Last October, Germany became the first team to officially qualify for the World Cup, winning 4-0 over North Macedonia in Group J of the European division.

Die Mannschaft secured their place in Qatar with seven wins from their first eight matches, where they will try to make up for a terrible campaign in Russia 2018 that saw them leave at the group stage.

Hansi Flick, a former Bayern Munich coach, will lead his first major tournament in Qatar, succeeding Joachim Low.

Iran

Mehdi Taremi of Porto scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Iraq, ensuring Dragan Skocic's side a berth in their third consecutive World Cup.

In 2018, the Iranians were eliminated from a group that included Spain and Portugal, and they will be hoping to get to the knockout stages for the first time in their history this time.

Japan

Japan qualified for the Asian Cup by defeating Australia 2-0 in Sydney, thanks to a last-gasp Kaoru Mitoma double.

The Samurai Blue will be in the finals for the seventh time in a row.

Mexico

Mexico tied for first place in CONCACAF qualifying with Canada with 28 points, securing their spot in the World Cup for the eighth time in a row.

The co-hosts of 2026 have advanced to the last-16 stage in each of their previous eight appearances and will be hoping to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1986.

Morocco

Morocco qualified for the World Cup in style, defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 5-2 on aggregate.

The Atlas Lions qualified for Qatar after a 1-1 tie in the first leg and a convincing 4-1 win in the second leg.

Netherlands

The Netherlands' World Cup qualification was sealed with a 2-0 win over Norway in a tight Group G.

Poland

Poland won the World Cup qualifying play-off finals 2-0 over Sweden, securing their place in Qatar.

At the expense of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski's penalty and Piotr Zielinski's score were enough to secure victory.

Portugal

Portugal defeated North Macedonia 2-0 in the World Cup qualifying play-off finals thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes.

Fernando Santos' team defeated Turkey 3-1 in the previous round and advanced with a similar score against the minnows who eliminated Italy.

Qatar

Qatar, as the host nation, is guaranteed a spot in the championships without having to qualify, and will be making their World Cup debut.

Only South Africa, in 2010, failed to reach the knockout rounds as a host nation in the previous 21 tournaments — albeit, based on official rankings, Qatar will have their work cut out for them to escape a similar fate.

Saudi Arabia is a country in the Middle East.

When Japan defeated Australia 2-0 in March, Saudi Arabia's World Cup spot was assured.

The Green Falcons have competed in the event five times, but have never advanced above their group since their first appearance in 1994.

Senegal

In a rematch of the Africa Cup of Nations final, Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties.

The AFCON champions won the shootout 3-1 after a 1-1 aggregate draw.

Serbia

Serbia earned a spot in the tournament on the back of a comeback victory over Portugal in Lisbon, ensuring their place in the Jules Rimet final.

Aleksandar Mitrovic made up for the penalty miss that cost the Eagles their place at Euro 2020 by scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute.

South Korea (South Korea)

With a win over Syria in AFC qualifying, South Korea qualified for their 10th consecutive World Cup.

After legendary victories over Italy and Germany in recent tournaments, the 2002 co-hosts will hope to have Heung-Min Son in their ranks as they scheme additional surprises.

Spain

Spain only needed a point against Sweden to qualify for Qatar, but they earned all three thanks to Alvaro Morata's late goal, which relegated Sweden to the play-offs.

Luis Enrique's side are clearly building for the future, having won three consecutive tournaments between 2008 and 2012 — but if their Euro 2020 preparations are any indication, we could be seeing a lot of La Roja in Qatar.

Switzerland

In the most dramatic of circumstances, Switzerland secured automatic entry by edging out European champions Italy for first place in their qualifying group.

The Swiss will be playing in their 12th World Cup, but they haven't advanced past the quarter-finals since 1954.

Tunisia

Tunisia qualified for the World Cup after a 1-0 aggregate victory over Mali.

The contest was decided in the first leg, when Moussa Sissako of Mali was sent off after conceding an own goal.

United States of America

After missing out in 2018, the US edged out Costa Rica on goal differential to reclaim their spot at the top table.

Gregg Berhalter's team will be led by Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic, who has 21 goals in 49 games for the Stars and Stripes.

Uruguay

Uruguay, the two-time world champions, qualified for Qatar with a 1-0 win over Peru in March.

This will be the 14th final for the South American nation, with their previous victory coming in 1950.

Wales

Rob Page's team had to face Austria in their play-off semi-final after placing second to Belgium in Group E of their qualification group.

After a 2-1 win owing to a Gareth Bale double, the Dragons defeated Ukraine 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Andriy Yarmolenko to clinch World Cup qualification for the first time since 1958.
