Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, a Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has encouraged the heads of Parliament's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee to forcefully express the views of Ghana's majority on LGBT+ matters during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in the United Kingdom.

The three-day event, which began on Monday, June 13 and will conclude on Wednesday, June 15, will focus on a variety of human rights concerns, including the contentious Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill (Anti-LGBTQ bill).

Mr. Dafeamekpor, who is also a sponsor of the Anti-LGBT+ law, said on JoyNews' PM Express that the four MPs in attendance, the Chairman of the Committee, his Vice, the Ranking Member, and his Deputy, should be ambassadors.  "As a member of the Committee and one of the sponsors, we expect them to become our ambassadors, the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Ranking Member, and Deputy Ranking Member, to represent our country at that conference."

"At that forum, they must represent the country's hearts and minds." They must express the sentiments of the majority of Ghanaians on this issue. If they say anything else, we're going to have a problem with them. "It's as simple as that," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Minority has accused the Committee Chairman, Mr Anyimadu-Antwi, of purposefully delaying the Bill's passage.

The Chairman, on the other hand, has disputed such claims.

He stated that the Committee has finished the public hearing and will now analyze the Bill clause by clause before submitting its report to the plenary.

On Joy FM's Top Story on Wednesday, he stated the Minority cannot hold him responsible for completing his job properly.

"I am dissatisfied with the statements spoken by Honourable Muntaka. He was the Chairman of the Health Committee, and no one interfered with his work when a bill was referred to him... We had finished the public hearing and were ready to go on.

"Now we'll wrap up the in-camera session and move on to clause-by-clause review of the Bill, following which we'll provide our report to the plenary...He stated that the Committee has finished the public hearing and will now analyze the Bill clause by clause before submitting its report to the plenary.

He couldn't fault me for performing my job properly, he couldn't criticize me," he explained.
