Pastor Mensa Otabil, the founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), is no longer on the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, according to reports.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Ranking Member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, made the announcement.

Ablakwa, appearing on JoyNews' The Probe on Sunday, June 12, said that the ICGC's chief had quit because of the Akufo-Addo government's illegality in relation to the current project.

"It's hardly surprising that the Board of Trustees is in a state of unsettling quiet. I can also reveal that one upcoming priest has left the Board; the esteemed Rev Mensa Otabil is no longer there.

"He hasn't been to any of their meetings for the whole year." It's unclear what his motivations are, but he's made it apparent [that things aren't going well]. That is why, as of this evening, the National Cathedral's website still lists Pastor Mensa Otabil, the General Overseer of the ICGC, as a member of the Board of Trustees," Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa remarked.

The construction of the 5,000-seater National Cathedral is one of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-top Addo's goals. This is in fulfillment of the President's promise to God before the 2016 elections.

The President stated that the building of the National Cathedral is critical to Ghana's prosperity.  He emphasized that the country's relative performance in comparison to neighboring countries is mostly due to God's grace.

"Ghana has thus far been spared civil war, starvation, and pandemic," the President declared at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cathedral on Thursday, March 5, 2020. We are obviously not better than the other nations in our region that have faced similar hardships, and I feel we are only surviving because of God's favor. It will be an expression of gratitude to the Almighty for his blessings, favor, grace, and mercy on our country."

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated a 13-member Board of Trustees to lead Ghana's National Cathedral on March 16, 2020.  The President said at their inauguration at Jubilee House that the National Cathedral will be overseen by the 13-member Board of Trustees after it is finished.

"It is a solemn moment for me because this is something I have pondered about on occasion [and] I am hopeful that if God is kind to me, this would see the light of day while I am a tenant," President Akufo-Addo remarked.
