Manchester United and Tottenham put on red alert as Christian Eriksen spurns Brentford contract extension

Manchester United and Tottenham have been boosted by the news that Christian Eriksen has reportedly turned down a contract extension from Brentford. The Danish midfielder made a miraculous return to football in January following a cardiac arrest whilst representing Denmark at last summer’s Euros. AFP Eriksen signed for Brentford in January six months after suffering a cardiac arrest Eriksen’s contract was subsequently terminated by former club Inter Milan as he was not permitted to play in Serie A due to having a defibrillator implanted. Eriksen moved to newly-promoted Premier League side Brentford in January and immediately looked like his old self with an array of sparkling performances, helping the club secure top-flight survival. The Dane scored once and provided four assists during his six-month spell in west London leading to a host of clubs keeping tabs on the 30-year-old. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has revealed that Eriksen has turned down an offer to extend his stay with the Bees. Pedulla states that the Dane is angling for a move to a Champions League club although he is keen to remain a Premier League player. Despite failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Manchester United remain interested in luring free agent Eriksen to Old Trafford.
