Following an unsuccessful loan period with Sevilla, Anthony Martial is due to return to Manchester United this summer, and it has now been revealed why he failed to reach the heights expected of him in Spain.
Injury is reportedly the main reason why Manchester United sensation Anthony Martial failed to impress during his loan stay at Sevilla, according to a club director.
After sliding down the pecking order at Old Trafford, the Frenchman joined the Spanish team on loan for the second half of the 2021/22 season. The move to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan was supposed to help the former Monaco star relaunch his career after a disappointing few seasons.
The 26-year-old, on the other hand, only made 12 appearances for Sevilla in five months, with his solitary goal coming against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. However, José Mara Cruz de Andrés, the club's general manager and secretary of the board of directors, has attributed Martial's troubles on a lack of fitness during his time at the club.
"I believe that the problem with Anthony Martial was that he sustained some injuries when he was starting to adjust to the coach, to his method," he told Sport Witness. He was unable to maintain the consistency he required.
"I believe he was overjoyed and thought [joining Sevilla on loan] was a nice opportunity for him." Martial's injuries have become a stumbling block. I feel he has liked his time with us, and I'm sure Anthony Martial has decided that Sevilla would be a fantastic place for him to start a new career."
Following the conclusion of his loan term in Spain, Martial is poised to return to Manchester United and will face stiff competition for a spot in the first team. Since his big-money move from Monaco in 2015, he's only scored double digits in the Premier League three times,His most productive season was the 2019/2020 season, when he scored 17 goals in the league.
Anthony Martial is a martial artist.
Last season, Anthony Martial had a bad loan spell with Sevilla.

Erik ten Hag, the new manager, will begin working with the players on June 27 and will then make decisions about who to keep and who to sell. It's very possible that Martial will be one of them on whom a decision will be made.
He only has two years left on his current Red Devils contract, so if the club wants to recoup a large money for his signature, a sale would certainly be a priority this summer. Martial, on the other hand, has already intimated that he is planning a return to Old Trafford in the near future.
"I see it as very tough to be able to continue at Sevilla," he told ABC Sevilla. Right now, I'm not concerned about it. I knew it would be six months before I had to return to Manchester United, so I came prepared.
"I'm overjoyed about the prospect of playing at a new club, especially one as big as Sevilla, and getting some minutes again."If we can finish in the top four, we will have accomplished our aim, and I will be grateful to the supporters, who have been incredibly supportive of me since my arrival."
