Barcelona is said to have told Manchester United that they require a guarantee of £74 million (€80 million) in order to approve the sale of Frenkie de Jong. The two teams are still in talks about a possible move, with Erik ten Hag clearly set on reuniting with his former teammate.
United's initial verbal offer - worth roughly £60 million - was rejected by Barca last week, but the Red Devils are unlikely to give up.
De Jong remains their first objective, and there is growing optimism that a deal may be reached.
Barca wants £74 million guaranteed, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, in order to reach an agreement with United.
While the Red Devils continue to try to reach an agreement, it's uncertain whether they'd be willing to match that amount.

One thing is certain: after initially stating that he preferred to stay at Barcelona, there is growing trust in De Jong's willingness to make the move.
He's thought to have had several meetings with Ten Hag, who has gone all out in an attempt to make United their objective.
United has not looked into other deep-lying midfield targets to date, implying that they are not yet ready to walk away from the table.
Instead, they'll keep probing, expecting that Barcelona will reluctantly lower their asking price.
Off the field, the Spanish giants are still in financial turmoil, which might be a stumbling block to any sale.
When asked if he'll be switching Barcelona's beaches for Manchester's, De Jong replied, "No, I don't believe I can say anything yet."
De Jong also mentioned the possibility of Robert Lewandowski joining Barcelona in the same interview.
Some United supporters are alarmed by De Jong's declaration, believing he is committed to staying with Barcelona for at least another season.
Christian Eriksen, an attacking midfielder who is scheduled to leave Brentford after six months, has apparently been offered a contract by United.
Tottenham are also interested in signing the Danish international, but have yet to make an offer.
United is also interested in Ajax winger Antony, but the Red Devils have yet to make a proposal.
Following Tottenham's third summer signing of Brighton's Yves Bissouma, Ten Hag will believe United need to step up their game.
