Andreas Christensen expects to announce his future club shortly after leaving Chelsea, after the Danish midfielder fueled rumours that he will join Barcelona by hailing them as one of Europe's biggest teams.
Last week, Chelsea revealed Christensen's exit, despite the defender being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.
After a loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach, Christensen joined Chelsea from Brondby in 2012 and went on to make 161 appearances for the Blues, winning the Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old wants to reveal his future destination soon after playing the whole 90 minutes in Denmark's 2-0 Nations League win over Austria on Monday. He made his decision some time ago.
The defender informed reporters, "I know where I have to play."
When asked when he would make a statement on his future, he replied: "Unfortunately, I don't have complete control. There are also a few additional things that must be in place.
"Hopefully, this will happen shortly. But I've known what I'm going to do for quite some time. All I have to do now is wait until the proper moment."
Barcelona has struggled financially in recent years, with LaLiga president Javier Tebas recently urging that Xavi's side sell key assets like midfielder Frenkie de Jong in order to bankroll any squad rebuilding during the summer season.
However, Christensen, who is expected to compete with current Barcelona centre-backs Gerard Pique and Ronald Araujo, believes that Barca is a squad that any player would be interested in joining.
"It's one of Europe's biggest clubs," he remarked. "It is, in my opinion, appropriate for everyone.
"Whether or not they have had their issues, it is still one of the most prestigious clubs for a player to join." Says Christensen as he prepares to join Barcelona
