Manchester City won the Premier League for the fourth time in the last five seasons after one of the most spectacular seasons in the league's history.

Ilkay Gundogan's brace on the last day, either side of Rodri's sidefooted shot, completing a spectacular five-minute comeback against Aston Villa.

Manchester City and Liverpool remained neck and neck for the title all season, with the Blues once again edging out the Reds by a single point. Jurgen Klopp's side will be looking to avenge last season's final-day anguish by defeating their arch-rivals this time around.

It may seem like we just finished the 2021/22 Premier League season, but the much-anticipated fixture list for the 2022/23 season will be out tomorrow, and everyone is already speculating on who they will face.

So, using a computer prediction, we've created a simulation of the opening day lineups to see who would be playing who on August 6th.

The simulated opening day fixtures on City Xtra

Starting with the Premier League champions, of course. On the opening day, Manchester City will travel to Brentford to play Thomas Frank's team, with Pep Guardiola's rejuvenated side hoping to get their title defense off to a winning start.

Last season, the Blues battled to break down Brentford's tenacious low block until Kevin De Bruyne's brilliance set up Phil Foden for the game's first and only goal.

Fans will be thrilled to see new faces in the Manchester City lineup, especially Erling Haaland, who will most likely make his complete debut in this match.

Moving on to Manchester City's main rivals, Liverpool will travel to the Midlands to face Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa. The former midfielder, who is well-known in Merseyside, came close to giving his old club the trophy on the last day, but they crumbled under enormous strain and eventually lost in a late setback.

Chelsea vs. Arsenal is the headline match of the first weekend in the so-called 'Big Six,' with the latter hoping to finish in the top four and the former hoping to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League crown.

Manchester United takes on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford under new manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils' performance last season was statistically the worst in recent memory, so they'll be looking for a significant improvement under the new management.
