Skipper Ben Stokes said England's triumph over New Zealand in the second test at Trent Bridge was the feature of his profession, outperforming even his Ashes heroics at Headingley in 2019 and his game dominating innings in the 50-overs World Cup that very year.
Jonny Bairstow crushed a long time and Stokes made an unbeaten 75 as England pursued 299 out of 50 overs on the last day to win by five wickets and secure the three-match series against the supreme world test champions.
Stirs up said the triumph "blows away" his other critical minutes in an England shirt, including the 2019 Ashes when he hauled the side back from the verge of rout to beat Australia in the third test.
"I'm battling to find words for what we saw out there today, it was simply extraordinary," said Stokes, who took over as chief in April after Joe Root ventured down.
"That blows away Headingley, it blows away Lord's and the World Cup last. Just genuinely and the pleasure in each moment I had on that field, it was unimaginable.
"I just can't exactly make sense of how we've pursued 299 with 20 overs left on day five of the test match when we needed to bowl 15 overs earlier today. That is at no point ever going to occur in the future. However, in the event that it does, it is most likely us who will make it happen."
The series triumph is England's most memorable under captain Stokes and lead trainer Brendon McCullum, who supplanted Chris Silverwood.
Britain will hope to finish a decisive victory of the series when the third test starts off at Headingley on 23 June.
