Yorkshire charged by ECB after examination concerning racism claims

 

 

 

Yorkshire County Cricket Club and various people have been charged following an examination concerning bigotry claims made by previous player Azeem Rafiq, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Wednesday, without naming individuals being referred to.

 

Rafiq, a previous England under-19 chief of Pakistani plummet, last year claimed that he had been a survivor of institutional prejudice at the club.

 

The embarrassment deeply impacted English cricket and prompted various changes in coaching and regulatory work force at Yorkshire.

 

"The charges emerge from supposed breaks of ECB Directive 3.3 (lead which is ill-advised or which might be biased to the interests of cricket or which might bring the ECB, the sport of cricket or any cricketer into notoriety) and the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code," the overseeing body said in a proclamation.

 

"In issues of this nature, our ordinary practice isn't to distinguish people charged at this stage. This choice is taken dependent upon the situation."

 

An autonomous board of the Cricket Discipline Commission, the body that handles disciplinary issues in the English homegrown game, will hear the cases at the appropriate time.

 

Rafiq, who affirmed before a British parliamentary panel in November, invited the ECB declaration and said he was expecting a fast end to the examination.

 

"This has been another exhausting however sadly essential interaction... I trust this all implies that no youthful player at any point goes through such torment and estrangement once more," the 31-year-old said in an explanation.

 

"My inclination would be for this consultation to happen freely, however I am confident that we are essentially approaching where there will be a few feeling of conclusion for my family and me."

 

In April, Yorkshire executive Kamlesh Patel said that the club had taken in its illustrations and expected to be a "encouraging sign" for variety in English cricket.
