Chelsea could lose another another defender as Feyenoord consider a move for teenager Ian Maatsen..
Chelsea could lose yet another defender, with Feyenoord allegedly interested in promising prospect Ian Maatsen.
In a 7-1 League Cup win against Grimsby in 2019, the 20-year-old left-back got his Blues debut under Frank Lampard.
Maatsen spent the previous two seasons on loan at Charlton Athletic and Coventry City.
However, he was not given another first-team opportunity and was loaned to third-tier Charlton for the 2020/21 season.
He then went on to play 40 times for Coventry City in the Championship last season, but has now returned to Chelsea after his loan period ended.
Maatsen was a member of Feyenoord's youth system before being released in 2013.
After that, he played for Sparta Rotterdam and PSV before joining Chelsea.
Feyenoord are reportedly considering bringing him back to the club nine years after letting him go as a teenager, according to Voetbal International.
Chelsea has a contract with Maatsen, who signed a new term two years ago that would last until at least the summer of 2024.
However, the Netherlands U18s defender's career could be jeopardized due to a lack of playing time.
Maatsen's future at Chelsea has been thrown into question for the fifth time.
Antonio Rudiger has already signed for Real Madrid after leaving Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.
Andreas Christensen, a fellow centre-back, has also been freed and is expected to join Barcelona.
Marcos Alonso, the left-back, has apparently reiterated his desire to leave this summer.
Cesar Azpilicueta, the club captain, could potentially be on his way out the door for free if Chelsea and the Spaniard cannot come to an agreement.
If all of those players leave, new owner Todd Boehly will be forced to back manager Thomas Tuchel in the summer transfer window.
